The Neumnnster Church in Wnrzburg is built on the site of the martyrdom in 689 of the Irish bishop St Kilian and his companions St Colman and St Totnan. The Romanesque church became an object of pilgrimage. The present appearance and structure of the building is largely the work of architect Joseph Greissing, who recast the Romanesque structure in the baroque style in the early 18th Century. It is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of German baroque architecture.
