Notes & Reviews:

Dame Myra Hess was a pianist with a commanding yet unobtrusive technique who specialized in Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann and Brahms. She made her debut in 1907 with Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 under Sir Thomas Beecham at London's Queen's Hall which brought her instant international recognition. Her concerts at London's National Gallery during the blitz were one of the inspirational images at the time and made her a national heroine. Fanfare magazine gave the previous Hess release rave reviews: "...this superlative release provides a music-loving record collector reason to celebrate."
