Notes & Reviews:

The Smetana Quartet was the greatest of a legendary line of Czech string ensembles. The quartet was formed on the 6th of November 1945 and made their debut in Prague playing Smetana's E minor quartet "From My Life," a work they would repeat thousands of times. The program is all Czech composers and features Janacek's "Kreutzer" Quartet, a composer who was promoted by the Smetana Quartet throughout their career.
