Album Notes
HAVANA DAYS is a 20-song remastering of the late great Cuban singer's work, including the favorite "Melao De Cana."
Celia Cruz needs no introduction to mambo or salsa fans, but the length of her career and the scattershot qualities of Latin compilations make it a good bet that few people have heard the bulk of her excellent early recordings. Recording with Cuba's most famous band, la Sonora Matancera, during the '40s and '50s, Cruz emerged as one of the fiercest and most fiery personalities to emerge in Latin music since the dawn of recording. A Proper Introduction to Celia Cruz: Havana Days could be improved slightly, but it still includes the vast majority of her best recordings of the era -- "Cao Cao Mani Picao," "Burundanga," and "Guagua." ~ John Bush
