Notes & Reviews:
Berlin Classics assembles here a high-class sampler of the music of some of the greatest composers active in Dresden during the Baroque era. Virtuoso trumpeter, conductor and musicologist Ludwig Guttler founded the Virtuosi Saxoniae in 1985 to give him a free hand when planning concert programs that called for flexible performing forces. The ensemble is made of leading members of the Sachsische Staatskapelle Dresden, and their goal is to cultivate the works written during that Golden Age of music as performed in the chapels and theatres of the Saxon Court.
