Notes & Reviews:
"It doesn't get much better than this - at least not on video. To find a better performance of Berlioz's gentle telling of the Christmas story, you have to go to Munch's own RCA recording made 10 years before this WGBH telecast of the concert on 13 December 1966. The audio recording is one of the three or four best ever (along with Colin Davis, Martinon, and possibly Dutoit). The soloists here are slightly less starry but better than just about any group that could be rounded up today... I am grateful to VAI for giving me yet another opportunity to see in action a conductor whose recordings I've cherished for many years. Munch's podium style is animated but all business, with no gratuitous showy gestures. He strides out to the podium deliberately, plants his feet firmly, and goes to work..." -A.R.G.Notes & Reviews:
