Notes & Reviews:
At the meeting point between painting and dance, Signes is the result of two successive and complementary creative processes: the artist Olivier Debre first conceived the scenery before the choreography took form. Transcending their decorative function, the backdrop landscapes have determined the scenario, breaking up the ballet into seven sequences. It is this impressive visual material which has fed Carolyn Carlson's choreographic inspiration. Without seeking to "illustrate" the intention of each canvas, nor to "animate" the painted matter, Carlson superposes onto Debre's vision the dynamic of shapes in movement to which the dancers bring energy and sensuality.Notes & Reviews:
