Schubert: Fierrabra / Welser-Most/Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House [DVD]

Album Summary

>Schubert, Franz : Fierrabras, D 796
Performers Conductor Ensembles Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Though known primarily for his instrumental works and lieder, Franz Schubert completed no less than four one-act Singspiel and two operas both in three acts. Fierrabras is a story of chivalry, honor, alienation, friendship, war and love in the courts of Frankish King Charlemagne and the Moorish Prince Boland. The music is all one would expect from Schubert - charmingly lyrical and elegantly melodic. This new performance by the Zurich Opera finally gives modern audiences a chance to explore the operatic potential in this master composer - a potential that was tragically cut short with his early death.
