Notes & Reviews:

The Beethovenfest 1970 marked the two-hundredth anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven. A principal visitor to that year's festival was Viennese pianist Friedrich Gulda. Flamboyant and somewhat eccentric, Gulda was equally at home in the worlds of classical music and jazz. His greatest classical inspiration was Beethoven, so it is fitting that he chose the 'Hammerklavier' Sonata to celebrate Beethoven's birthday. This recording offers a unique glimpse into our classical heritage.
