Notes & Reviews:
Live from the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern is Giuseppe Verdi's Falstaff. This operatic comedy in three acts was called by Die Rheinpfalz "A highly successful production". Falstaff tells the tale of the famous corpulent and cowardly knight, Sir John Falstaff, as he leads the wayward Prince Hal into trouble.
Weikl is an admirable Falstaff ... he is capable of admirable sustained high notes, his Italian is clear and most important, every phrase is completely in character. Weikl's portrayal is the work of a significant artist who can dominate every moment he is onstage - notably in the first scene of Act III, where he achieves a touching blend of the ludicrous and the sympathetic.
