Notes & Reviews:

The film recordings on this DVD are sourced from Hans van Manen's private archives of rare, unissued material. The famous Dance company INTRODANS has danced over 20 works by Van Manen. Clarity of structure and a refined simplicity are the elements in his work. Many of his ballets are ideally suited for a young audience: in 2000 and 2003 INTRODANS Ensemble for Youth successfully presented a Van Manen program entitled 'Mix4Kids'.

Unremarkable, Mundane Contemporary Choreography
Hans Van Manen's program, Mix4Kids, is an unexciting compilation of his contemporary choreographies - Ajakaboembie, In and Out, (parts of) Bits and Pieces, and In the Future. Featuring decent dancers and miscellaneous modern music, the choreographies use dry humor and cliched choreographic tricks to attempt at a portrayal of a vague story. In the Future is the most interesting of all the pieces, if only for its original, minimalistic costumes and scenery. To fans of Hans Van Manen, and perhaps die-hard fans of contemporary ballet, this would be an ideal pick; but for most balletomanes, I would say to avoid this DVD.
