Notes & Reviews:
A member of the Vienna Boys Choir as a youngster, the remarkable Austrian operetta composer Carl Zeller (1842-98) composed seven stage works in a nearly two decade career, written in his spare time whilst working in an Austrian government ministry. Premiered in 1891 and considered his most successful operetta, Der Vogelha¨ndler (The Bird Seller), a romantic, cross-cultural comedy, received this modern-day performance, available on Videoloand, in 1998 at the Seefestspiele Moerbisch Austria Festival.
