Notes & Reviews:

The founding of the Berliner Philharmoniker on the first day of May 1882 is annually celebrated with a concert in a culturally significant European city. As has been done every year since 1991, in 2003 the orchestra commemorated its founding by performing at the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, the former Hieronymite monastery in the vicinity of Lisbon. The repertoire includes pieces by Ravel, Bartók, Mozart and Debussy. Pianist Maria João Pires, one of the great Mozart interpreters of our time, joined maestro Pierre Boulez for the evening's performance.
