Weber: Missa Sancta No. 1 "Freischützmesse" / Laki, Schiml, Protschka, Rootering. Haydn: Missa Sanctae Caeciliae / Popp, Soffel, Laubenthal, Moll (Basilika Waldsassen, 1986) [Blu-ray]

Notes & Reviews:

Thanks to its creation at the very same time as his famous opera "Der Freischütz" Carl Maria von Weber's Missa Sancta No. 1 (1818) is also known as the "Freischu¨tzmesse". In 1986, Horst Stein, longtime principal conductor of the Bamberg Symphony, revived this rarely performed work in concert with soloists Krisztina Laki, Marga Schiml, Josef Protschka and Jan-Hendrik Rootering. The coupled 1982 performance of Haydn's Missa Sanctae Ceaciliae features the Bavarian Radio Symphony and Chorus under Rafael Kubelik and a soloist cast that includes Lucia Popp, Doris Soffel and Kurt Moll.
