Notes & Reviews:
This film by Bank Street Films of Villa Diodati, a chamber opera by Mira J. Spektor with libretto by Colette Inez, was the result of a performance at York Theatre in St. Peter's Church as part of the New York Musical Theater Festival. Spektor and her husband visited Villa Diodati in Switzerland in 1998 and the American couple in the opera is based on their experiences there. Using poetry by famous poets who once stayed there for the libretto (Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, Mary Wollstonecraft), the opera conjures up the ghosts, games and premonitions that are part of the legends surrounding the Villa. Born in Europe, Mira Spektor has enjoyed a successful career as a singer as well as a composer. She has written scores for films, a folk opera, chamber opera, and songs. She is the founder/director of The Aviva Players, dedicated to the performance of women composers.Notes & Reviews:
