Notes & Reviews:

During Lent in France of the baroque period, the faithful would hasten to churches to listen to great preachers of the day. Between the sermons the orator would pause for performance of petits motets. And that was probably how Marc-Antoine Charpentier's 'Meditations pour le Careme' were presented. As is the custom with their recordings, Ensemble Pierre Robert presents a programme alternating vocal compositions with solo pieces for the organ (the three verses of Nicolas de Grigny's 'Pange lingua' and an 'Elevation' by Nicolas Lebegue).
