On May 29, 1723, J.S. Bach arrived in Leipzig. That meant that St. Thomas' School had a new teacher, the choir of St. Thomas' had a new choirmaster and the city had a new music director. It was for that school's choir that Bach conceived most of his vocal works. The choir had a long choral tradition even at that time, and all these years later this series celebrates Bach recordings made by famed conductors Gunther Ramin, Kurt Thomas, Erhard Mauersberger, and Hans-Joachim Rotzsch. This collection is a definitive sampling of Bach's musical genius.
