Notes & Reviews:

Vaclav Talich conducted Tchaikovsky's 'Symphonie Pathetique' and Wagner's 'Prelude und Liebestod' (from the opera 'Tristand und Isolde') during his tour of Russia in February and March of 1933. The year before he had already had tremendous successes with concerts in Moscow and Leningrad, leaving Russia in fact with an official offer to become the Principal Conductor of the Leningrad Philharmonic and a professor at Leningrad Conservatory, where he would train young Russian conductors. It is interesting to take at least a brief look at his relationship to the Russian element.
