Notes & Reviews:

"The opening of the little known Weber overture may contain the seeds of Wagner's overture to 'Die Meistersinger,' the ending is a stirring take on 'God Save the King,' and what's in between is lively in typical Weberian fashion. The Ravel is animated and brightly lit, with fine work by the oboist (note the lovely chirping at the end of 'Forlane'). The Chabrier is both colorful and, when required, dignified. All is recorded slightly forward in perspective, with ripe woodwind color and exceptional clarity for monaural. Admirers of Monteaux should like it, and even monophobes shouldn't object to its sound." -American Record Guide
