Notes & Reviews:

This Delos release is unique in the classical realm because it offers two masterpieces by one of the greatest composers of the 20th Century, Dmitri Shostakovich, played and interpreted by artists who have a very special history with the composer. It is well known that Maxim Shostakovich, the gifted son of the conductor, is a distinguished conductor and an important exponent of his father's music. Violin soloist Dmitri Kogan's musical heritage is also significant to the global classical marketplace. His grandfather, Leonid Kogan, often played and worked with Dmitri Shostakovich himself, and his grandmother, Elizaveta Gilels, was the sister of famed Russian pianist, Emil Gilels. Such important family ties have guaranteed that Dmitri Kogan has developed into a masterful interpreter of the music of Shostakovich.
