Notes & Reviews:

The works on this CD were composed during the "golden age of classical music," that is, during a time when the clarinet underwent extraordinary mechanical changes and advances. No other instrument can match the clarinet in the manner in which its tone can swell and fade. Its tone is supple and malleable, characterized by mellow, vocal qualities as well as by a darker, more ominous side. It can be exuberant and audacious, as well as sensual and this unique combination of qualities led to an almost completely new genre during the Classic Period. The beautiful partnership between clarinet and piano could never be more obvious.
