Notes & Reviews:
The Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola, comprised of the best of New York's professional choral singers, consists of members who are each soloists in his or her own right in a variety of genres including early music, opera, oratorio and the contemporary repertoire. Their Music Director, Kent Tritle, is one of New York's leading choral conductors and organists. He is founder and music director of Sacred Music in a Sacred Space, the acclaimed series of concerts at the Church. He has brought the group critical acclaim, and from 1991-1993 oversaw the design and installation of the Church's magnificent N.P. Mander Pipe Organ. These two discs are wonderful examples of the Choir's range and diversity, focusing on the serene beauty of Maruice Durufle's Requiem in its "chamber version," along with Wondrous Love, a spiritual journey along a symbolic path, one familiar to many as a Christian pilgrimage, such as is found in Dante's Divine Comedy or Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress.
