This recording is an authentic document from the heyday of Helge Rosvaenge, but sadly it is a complete opera recording that is incomplete. The recording was made by radio station Reichssender Berlin on a total of 34 one-sided shellac discs that were played from the inside out and had overlapping passages that allowed the broadcast engineer to synchronize each disc with the next in only a few seconds. Of the original discs, four are missing, although it should be noted that this radio version omitted both the overture as well as Riccardo's aria in the third act. The missing sections mostly involve Hildegarde Ranczak and unfortunately include her duet with Rosvaenge. Preiser has included supplementary materials from 1941 and 1942 radio broadcasts to compensate for the missing sections.
