Notes & Reviews:

This new SACD offers an uncommon pairing of two essential chamber scores by Brahms. The quartet of Op.51 is heroic and rigorous, nurtured at length in an attempt to honor the heritage of Beethoven's 'Razumovsky' quartets. The quintet is warm, with an intense and sumptuous dialogue between the clarinet and strings. The work sublimated Brahms' dreams and confidences, coming to an end with intimate exchanges between the clarinet and cello. Clarinetist Pascal MoraguFs joins the Prazk Quartet in this celebration of Brahms and his glorious chamber music.
