Subtitled "Finnish Choral Music in the New Millennium", this imaginative and strikingly diverse collection of works showcases the EMO Ensemble, a choir formed only in 2000 at the Espo Music Institute. Its purpose is to offer talented musicians between 15 and 25 the opportunity to develop their vocal capabilities and, on the other hand, to offer composers an instrument capable of learning new, demanding material at short notice. The choir has professional singers as section leaders who coach the ensemble members. The EMO Ensemble currently consists of about 40 young musicians, directed by Pasi Hyokki (b.1970). This disc not only shows off the remarkable talent of the singers but also introduces listeners to some exceptional Finnish composers, such as conductor/composer Esa-Pekka Saolnen, as well as some important new names.
