Notes & Reviews:

The complete edition of Ropartz's six string quartets here in this world premiere. Volume 1 offers the second and third quartets. With these works Ropartz definitely cuts loose from the model of Cesar Franck, in a language both powerfully personal and highly emotional. The Quatuor Stanislas, whose members are all first desk soloists of the Orchetre de Nancy, has been exploring his music for several years now in highly-praised concerts. Independently from Ropartz' historical attachment to Nancy (he was a kind of Generalmusikdirektor for the city for two decades), there is a clear void to be filled on the shelves of collectors with these works, whose musical content is of the highest achievement and of great spiritual elevation.
