Notes & Reviews:

These original 1950's recordings of the lighter "pops concert" pieces that von Karajan recorded in between "serious" repertoire items. Much of this material was later re-recorded during the first days of stereo but many people (including the producers of this reissue) prefer the earlier, original takes. A light touch and airiness of playing, with sheer high spirits and energy of the 45-year-old von Karajan are preserved here. For extra measure, the CD includes the 1952 performance of the Hamilton Harty arrangement of Handel's Water Music.
