Notes & Reviews:

Felix Weingartner (1863 - 1942) was a conductor, composer, pianist, and enthusiast of the ethereal. Weingartner wrote of this symphony: "In astrological myth its E major key is the sun. The E consists of the initial letters of our first names, F and L. E major from then on became our transcendental key, just as in the heavens Cassiopeia, representing a W, read in its inversion as an M, became our constellation. Secret words that only we two know how to read are set to some themes." His musical style partakes somewhat more of early Romanticism than of its later developments, to say nothing of modernism. As a conductor Weingartner recorded perhaps the first complete cycle of Beethoven symphonies on record; he also wrote books on conducting, on Beethoven's symphonies and on the symphony since Beethoven, and editions of individual works of Gluck, Wagner, a large edition of Berlioz, and many others.

International Record Review
Marko Letonja directs his Basle Symphony Orchestra with what must have been enormous enthusiasm... I enthusiastically recommend this important release.
