"'Don Giovanni's Höllenfahrt' (1999) is dramatic and spectacular, Forbes given virtuoso passages and playing with passion, accompaniment played by a brass nonet. Noticeable among the outstanding brass players are trumpeter John Aley, tenor trombonist Mark Hetzler, and bass trombonist Kevin Rigotti. The rest of the members of the fine ensemble are trumpeters Amy Schendel, Amy Gilreath, and Edward Hong; horn player Rick Lee; and trombonists Stephen Parson and Todd Schendel Mike Forbes, a member of Sotto Voce tuba-euphonium quartet and the faculty of East Carolina University, is an outstanding tubist with a solid, colorful tone, terrific technical skills, and dramatic flair.
