Notes & Reviews:

It's hard to believe it's been over 40 years since the Beatles first hit the scene. What's more, "classical" versions of their hits have been around almost as long (the one that started it - Joshua Rifkin's 'Baroque Beatles Book' - Came out in 1965). This new disc on 21 is one of the most clever and musically "reverent" Beatles songbooks to come along. As the producers put it, "The melodies reveal how beautiful and simple they really are, perfectly in tune with the ancient tradition of Gregorian Chant. Listening to this recording, we like to think these songs could have naturally been sung by real monks living in a monastery somewhere in a small 12th century abbey, 30 miles north of Liverpool..."
