Notes & Reviews:

This live broadcast from Vienna in 1971 brings together one of the most outstanding casts ever assembled for this rarely heard opera, a situation due in great part to the lack of singers able today to satisfy Meyerbeer's sometimes almost superhuman demands on the human voice. When 'Les Huguenots' was popular at The Met, in the late 19th century, performances were known as "nights of seven stars" because no fewer than seven superstar vocalists were required to put the opera across.
