Album Summary

Performer Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Schutz remained highly active as a composer until his death and was to set three accounts of the 'Passion' to music. Much mystery remains as to the nature of these works and their exact dates and inspirations, but thanks to the notations of a musicologist, J.Z.Grundig, corrected versions of the work, particularly the 'St' John Passion', exist in readily performable editions. Originally intended, as the composer suggested, for more modest church choirs, the settings include music for everyday use, as well as vespers ad even mealtime grace setting for children's choirs in German.
