Notes & Reviews:

Erna Berger, who was born near Dresden in 1900, exhibited unusual musicality very early. Though her family disapproved of her of her attempt to pursue her talent, Berger was nurtured by the support of the famed Elisabeth Rethberg as well as by participating in a local chorus. The family relocated to Paraguay, but the young and determined singer again returned to Dresden to further her studies. After establishing herself as a coloratura soprano in Berlin, her own fame began to spread through all the European capitals. She became the first German singer invited to tour Australia. Despite her worldly success, Berger never became spoiled by her achievements and her heart always remained loyal to her Berlin audiences. This album is a compilation of historic recordings of Berger singing selections by Mozart, von Flatow, Offenbach, Verdi and Puccini on this album illustrating the wide variety of music she performed in her long lifetime.
