Notes & Reviews:

Dr. Jan Bach is the recipient of countless grants, awards and commissions, achieving international recognition through performances of his music, his publications, recordings and mini-residencies, and his biography in such standard reference works as Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians and the new Grove's Dictionary. He counts Burrill Phillips, Donald Martino and Aaron Copeland to name a few of his many important teachers. This is the first commercial CD devoted entirely to his music, and all works feature the artistry of the Chicago Lyric Opera first horn Jon Boen. Bach's music has a strongly modern sound, which maintains an identifiable American accent. The 'Gala Fanfare' in particular, has a confident, exciting sense of flair and the 'Concerto,' a substantial work not only serves as a showpiece for the soloist but is also an extremely significant orchestral piece.
