As a composer/conductor Robert Ian Winstin has explained on past releases in this remarkable series, the emphasis here is presenting the great diversity of styles found in modern classical music. This is surely in abundance in this particular release, as one encounters tumultuous excitement in Hitter's 'Urban Collision,' gentle repose in McCarter's 'Opening Ideas,' melancholy and nostalgia in Yeagley's 'HaNitzol,' and pageantry in the 'Metamorphic Fanfare' by David Sartor. The music ranges from neo-Romantic to expressionistic and from neo-classical to avant-garde. This release shines a light on the rising Buenos-Aires composer Jorge Liderman, whose chamber and solo works have appeared on many discs already. This work is probably the first commercial release of any of his orchestral pieces, and 'Glimpses' is a highly expressive piece, in twelve short movements, which exuberantly shows off the conducting of Winstin and his orchestra.
