Notes & Reviews:

Just as Germany brought us the custom of the Christmas tree, Berlin Classics now brings us these unique Christmas collections. 'Silent Night. Holy Night' presents three facets of musically celebrating the holiday. Famed tenor Peter Schreier is heard performing classic Christmas carols with the renowned Thomanerchor of Leipzig on the first CD. He is but one of many important graduates of the Dresden Boys' Choir, one of the oldest ensembles of its kind in the world, and on the second CD they perform a complete Christmas Eve Service under the direction of their most famous conductor Rudolf Mauersberger, one of Germany's most important choral specialists. On the third CD we hear instrumental and vocal works of the 17th century associated with the holiday performed by several famous names as well as quite a few who will be unfamiliar to you.
