Notes & Reviews:

Born in 1943, Brian Ferneyhough is a renowned British composer of mostly orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, and piano works that have been performed throughout the world. Ferneyhough described the emotional setting for his two 'Funerailles,' composed between 1969 and 1980, as "a ceremony taking place behind a curtain or far away." With these works Ferneyhough appears bent on delving deeper into his compositional abilities and on discovering what he could do with sound material structured like a ritual, principally for the emotional response that it can draw.
