Notes & Reviews:
Too often on recordings Fidelio's first act sounds like a prelude to the Second but not in this lissom, muscular account, always musically phrased and consistently on its toes. Fricsay's Fidelio "adds up", with fine singing that creates the impression of animated chamber music.
