Album Summary
Taneyev, Sergei : Trio for Piano and Strings in D major, Op. 22
Taneyev, Sergei : Quartet for Piano and Strings in E major, Op. 20Notes & Reviews:
Taneyev, Tchaikovsky's favorite pupil, has gained much attention lately with ongoing releases of his 'String Quartets.' Both works represented on this disc were composed during the late period of Taneyev's activity. The 'Quartet' has often been called by critics a 'Concerto for Piano and String Ensemble' because of the amazing complexity of the piano part. In the 'Piano Trio,' classical and romantic traditions are combined with certain 20th century musical ideas and idioms. As a tribute to the memory of the composer, the First All-Russian chamber music competition was launched.
