Notes & Reviews:
Stanislaw Moniuszko is best known as the father of Polish opera ('The Haunted Manor') and writer of highly popular songs. However, he is also a true master of other genres, especially church music. His devotion to liturgical music came mostly from his strong religious convictions. His church output comprises almost ninety works, including masses, cantatas, motets, religious songs and instrumental transcriptions. The four cantatas he called 'The Four Litanies of Ostra Brama were composed in Vilnius and are linked with the poet Tomasz Zan.
