Notes & Reviews:

Silvie Hessova (b.1969) is a critically-acclaimed performer who has appeared both as a soloist and a chamber musician throughout her native Czech Republic and in Europe. Daniel Wiesner (b.1969), also from the Czech Republic has appeared throughout Europe as a highly-acclaimed pianist in both solo and chamber capacities. This new disc shows how younger composers (all of whom were born in the 1950s) strive to speak in their own voices while maintaining older traditions. These are "new" works but they are not necessarily "modern" sounding. Each speaks in direct terms to the audience, reflecting on day-to-day existence and one's cultural roots. A perfect example would be Jandra's 'Forgotten Time,' where, as the composer writes, "(this) is my way of capturing those fleeing moments when one unwittingly reflects on one's life - no analysis, no conclusions, just carried along between dreams and the shadows of reality."

Award winning violinist Silvie Hessová presents a concert of works for violin and piano by Czech composers, all of whom were born in the 1950s. A sought-after soloist as well as a recitalist and chamber musician, Ms. Hessová is concertmaster of the chamber ensemble Quattro and on the faculty of Prague's New York University.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
Gemrot's sonata for violin and piano is energetic, mobile, and active. It is extended melodic phrases with some Eastern European gestures. The Bodorova is in fact a concerto for the same instruments, similar in harmonic and melodic tendency. It is more delicate and pretty. The Kubicka is similar in its Italian movement titles.
