When a new building, the Artisten, was erected for the School of Music at Gothenburg, Sweden in 1988, three organs were commissioned, the principal one being a 19th century style French symphonic organ of forty-three registers in the style of the great organ builder Aristide Cavaille-Coll. The result, built by the Dutch Vershueren firm, is one of the finest instruments in its class in the world. All the works on this album were written for exactly this type of instrument, and are performed by Holland's greatest living organist, Jacque van Oortmerssen...
