Polish coloratura soprano Ada Sari was born Jadwiga Szayer and because of her stage name was often thought to be Italian. She was a much-admired vocal virtuoso, a master of staccato singing. Over the years she would travel throughout Europe and South America, gaining a reputation as one of the most important prima donnas of her era.
