Notes & Reviews:

This recording, made in 1966, remains the most authentic interpretation since the 1956 Lotte Lenya reading. The high-powered reading given by Herbert Kegel and the Leipzig Radio Symphony and the superbly cast male quartet would, by themselves, have insured the international success of this recording (which earned the Grand Prix du Disque in 1968), but the crowing glory is Gisela May.
