Notes & Reviews:

Violinist Alexandre da Costa was born in Montreal, Canada in 1979. By the age of nine, he was giving concerts with stunning virtuosity on both violin and piano. He was recognized as a prodigy, and his chosen career as a violinist began early with both recitals and with orchestra. After obtaining his Master's degree at 18, he went to Europe and studied under renowned master Zakhar Bron. Winner of many prestigious national and international First Prizes, including the 2002 Sylva Gelber Award, he has appeared as soloist in over 500 recitals and concerts in Europe, America and Asia. Jose Luis Turina, the grandson of Joaquin Turina, writes, "I strongly believe that the great duo formed by Canadian violinist Alexandre da Costa and Spanish pianist Juan Carlos Garvayo ideally suits the music of my grandfatherthe musical endeavor of both performers conveys the aesthetic and stylistic qualities of the composer with the highest precision and ensures a most reliable interpretation of Turina's music. This can undoubtedly be heard in their terrific renditions of Homenaje a Navarra and the brilliant arrangement of La Oracion del Torero by Heifetz."
