Notes & Reviews:

"The Piano Quartet is in four movements and runs an extraordinary 37-1/2 minutes. I opens with a wonderful romantic-sounding theme that lasts for over 13 minutes. It is an extraordinary work, probably written in the spring of 1803. In fact, Schumann wrote that Louis Ferdinand was a generation ahead of his time with his romantic construction of themes. Both Schumann and Archduke Rudolf wrote variations on some of its melodies. III and IV remain rather gloomy pieces that don't return the listener to a more positive note at the end. The Trio Parnassus and violist Thomas Selditz are no better known to me than they were in MDG's Volume I, but they again play with a great deal of feeling that makes one delight in the music. The recording is perfectly balanced and has a nice acoustic. The notes are very fine. I think anyone would be satisfied by this wonderful disc." -ARG
