Pacius: The Hunt of King Charles / Aalto, Kattelus, et al

Notes & Reviews:

"Musically this is a beautiful work. The most consistent influence (though hardly dominant) is Weber. There are hints of Bellini and Verdi. There is spoken dialog and recitative, but there are also two melodramas-text spoken over orchestral chords. The orchestral writing shows a thorough knowledge of the instruments and there is no clumsiness in the scoring. The themes are far from mediocre and several are memorable. The vocal writing is sure and the chorus is used very effectively." -ARG
