Notes & Reviews:

This competition, as a memorial of respect to Sergei Taneyev, one of Tchaikovsky 's most important pupils and a teacher of Rachmaninov and Scriabin, was launched regionally in 1996, and turned international in 2002. Among the participants were young musicians from Russia, Germany, China, Great Britain, Georgia, Belorus, the Ukraine and Armenia. Let 's meet the 1st and 2nd Prize Winners: the duo of Tamara Tchitadze and Ketevan Sepashvili began in 1999. Both were students of the Saradzhisvili Conservatory in Tbilisi, Georgia. The Trio Belle Epoque was also established in 1999. During 2000 and 2001 the Trio won several prizes in international chamber music competitions and recently took First Prize in the Koblenz International Chamber Music Competition. They have played many recitals in the UK and abroad. The four members of the piano quartet performing the Taneyev Op. 20 came together in 2000 and all were studying in the class of Moscow Conservatory Professor Tatiana Gaidamovich, who initiated the first Taneyev Competition in 1996.
