Notes & Reviews:

By popular demand MDG is re-issuing this recording of Villa-Lobos Cello Concerto in honor of the composer's 120th anniversary. This was originally only available as an analog LP recording 20 years ago. Swiss cellist Ulrich Schmid's career as a soloist and teacher have given him great renown in the United States as well as in Europe. The Grande Concerto was composed in 1915, while Villa-Lobos was the darling of the Parisian Avant-garde, but did not achieve great public acclaim until after World War II when he composed his second Cello Concerto.
