Notes & Reviews:

Looking ahead to the next Haydn year, 2009, the German Buchberger Quartet is recording Haydn’s complete works for string quartet. The Quartet specializes in Haydn’s music and has been doing so for the past 30 years. With Hubert Buchberger on the first violin this Quartet knows its Haydn thoroughly. It shows in their inspired performances. In this third volume the musicians tackle the only two quartets from opus 77 and the single quartet from opus 103. On the other CD they play the unusual Sieben letzte Worte in the version for string quartet. These seven consecutive slow movements were arranged for string quartet by the composer himself.
